Overview
The rarest unit to be seen in Arabia games, although it can compete for that title with Berserks, War Elephants and Tarkans. But compared to these, Mamelukes have very few effective counters. Especially if you’re playing with cavalry civs!

War Story
The game started out as a simple act of vengeance, PeEl and Dziamdziak had an argument about a DM and PeEl just wanted to let Dziamdziak die. He even helped the enemy by flaring Dziamdziak’s economy. Despite a good defensive play by the latter, he eventually had to resign once his enemies could afford the blacksmith upgrades and put an end to the overwhelming Byzantine trash units.
PeEl walled up in the meanwhile with a triple palisade wall and castled before his enemies. Both had no clue how to handle the upcoming army though. Mamelukes, pure mamelukes. As it is common in the castle age, both players first started out with knights, but it soon proved inefficient against these creatures that eat horses for breakfast. They managed to raid parts of his economy but eventually PeEl managed to imp and defeat all the raiders in his town. Aided by the very cheap elite upgrade to mamelukes.
At this point the game tilted and I suspected PeEl to have 5 pair of hands. He started to push the enemy with rams and mamelukes and in the meanwhile kept his eyes open for his adversaries to spread out all over the map. He started to blend in Hussars too, which proved an effective counter against Snake’s onager and skirmisher combination.
Eventually the Saracens controlled whole of Arabia, just like they were predestined to be.
