War Story
This game is probably the most famous civrape record of them all. Mayans vs Goths is often called the biggest civrape in imperial games. Which makes sense, since Mayans have big troubles to just counter huskarls. Which -to make it even worse- can be pumped from barracks in a matter of seconds! They can’t engage in a champion war, their archers are out of the question and 100 HP eagles only win with a narrow margin. Besides that they cost a lot more too! But does that make Mayans lose in advance? Not at all. I think this game suffered from a bit of overconfidence though. The very cliche thought that Mayans can’t win anyways. But they did and despite that, the cliche still goes on in all people’s minds. So make sure to play your best and abuse the underestimation of your enemy!
The most important feature in the game is that _kyo knew eagles are still the best shot against huskarls. So his main concern would be to secure as many gold mines as possible. And relics of course. Since plumes can hit and run easily in castle age (and are easier to produce) gathering the relics is a lot easier for a Mayan than for a Goth. So with an advantage of 4 (later 5) relics vs 0, they jumped into the imperial age. Chris still confident about his win went pure huskarls. A smart choice against the eagles and although he didn’t really win a battle, he sure lost less gold than _kyo. However, 2 other strengths of Mayans are their longer lasting resources and their ability to cheaply wall off parts of the map. _kyo abused both advantages and walled off chunks of the map to mine gold. Chris had difficulties guarding his part of the map in the meanwhile because he -as a Goth- was unable to build stone walls. Which forced him to use population space rather than walls and buildings to secure his terrain.
In the end the inevitable happened and both players started to run out of gold. However, since _kyo had 5 relics, Chris was lost in advance. If you look at pure trashunits, Goths are better than Mayans, but since just a single eagle makes a huge difference in trashwars, the advantage was obviously on _kyo’s side. Shortly thereafter, Chris offered his resignation
Aftermath: The key of the game was in the gold supply. _kyo barely kept up with Chris till they both ran out of gold. Even though _kyo gathered 26000 gold vs Chris’ 14000 gold. But he took that gold, so it’s his merit!
