War Story
We all know that once a building order fails, we must come up with a way to adapt our strategy. But what if this change is so drastic that you don’t even have a forest to build a lumbercamp? This is what happened to Duck and Grunt in their oriental showdown in MegaRandom. The map looked a bit like ES@Canals but all the forests were in the middle. A place Grunt never went to cut trees. In fact, he never went to any forest at all and thus he had to come up with something else. The plan was as simple as it was genius.
Cut all the stragler trees you can find and spend your wood on a market. Then (ab)use the Turkish gold mining bonus to sell all your gold for wood, food and stone. Since he only had a small entry to his base to defend, he managed to keep Duck’s massive archer army out of his town with just a tower and some walls. Then after he managed to trade his way to the castle age, it was time to launch his kamikaze attack. He bought himself a castle, some janissaries, a handful of knights and together with his villagers he launched an attack on Duck’s lumber economy. With success as Duck was offered his resignation which Grunt gratefully accepted.
I must say that this is one of my favorite games of the last year(s), Grunt’s attack was so suicidal, yet smart at the same time. I’m curious how many players could think of such tactics on 2K level under these circumstances. Congrats to the Korean old timer!
